IT’S BEEN A WHILE

December 31, 2008

Between school and freelance projects, posting on the ol’ blizog has not been top priority. I’ve got some time now because of the break, so I here goes.

I AM SO THIRSTY RIGHT NOW

September 9, 2008

Pumped…I just got my classic sigg water bottle in the mail. I can finally start drinking liquids again. Who knew that drinking water could be this beautiful.

TIME TO REFLECT

September 1, 2008

After getting my new phone I had some time to reflect on my summer experience. I couldn’t have asked for anything more. 3 months on Manhattan while working for a fantastic design studio. It’s not until now that I realize my sincere appreciation for the experience I had. I’m not alluding that I didn’t enjoy it while I was there, because oh…I did. I just think it is easy to get caught up in the negative aspects of the city while in the thick of it; dealing with overly bitter people trying to control what little left New York has left them, the pushing on crowded sweaty trains, the smell of rotting…uhhhh everything, the constant noises, etc… But at the end of the day you always end up missing hating New York, and the good outweighs the bad. I loved it all.

I don’t want to be one of those obnoxiously over possessive people of the City; you know the kind that went there for a job interview, got stranded on the island for a week and now tell people they’re from there. They say things like, “you don’t know New York, I know New York, let me tell you about it.” But, regardless of if I end up back there, I will always have a little piece of me in NYC.

Really though, the reason I loved my experience so much was because of Case. studioCase to me was pure talent, synergy, need I say location, friendship, intelligence, and progression. What more could you want. But then again not everybody is into high quality design while being treated with respect.

I told you I would show you the shirts I made for Case, here they are:

(back of the shirt: gray on gray detail to add a little something special)

Now…it is time to get on with it. I made some great memories this summer but I have some fun projects ahead of me too. I love the fellow designers in my senior class and I have some amazing professors to work with. This is going to be a great year.

FIRST THING I DID

August 31, 2008

The first thing I did upon arrival from New York to Salt Lake City (2 weeks ago) was:

A. Kiss my wife and say, “dang, there are a lot of white people here.”

B. Go straight home and challenge my father-in-law to a heated game of croquet.

C. Get in the car and drive directly to the salt lake apple store and buy a brand new black 16G iPhone.

Thanks to a generous gift from my peeps at studioCase, the answer is C.

Thanks again guys, I love it!

2 WEEKS TODAY

August 31, 2008

I have officially been back in Utah for 2 weeks. I still miss New York like crazy, but I’m also excited to go full speed into my last year of school. Since being back I’ve had some time to get caught up on some projects, go to the lake to wakeskate…thrice, get sunburned, peel, get a haircut, go to a couple family reunions, golf, and screen print some T-shirts (of which I will show you soon). I guess I’m out of excuses not to get caught up on my blog. So get ready…here come the posts.

(I took this a couple weeks ago, brilliant right?)

SPEAKING OF QUOTES

August 4, 2008

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/08/03/nyregion/thecity/03croq.html?_r=1&oref=slogin

I really want to expound on how Shell and I were quoted in the New York Times as being such loyal advocates of the civilized game of Croquet, but I don’t think I will.

CHASE QUOTE

August 4, 2008

Love this quote:

USING COMPUTER TRICKS. This usually results from trying to decorate a weak design. Applications like illustrator, Photoshop, and Painter can be a huge asset to any designer, but they should be used with restraint. A bad logotype that is warped, beveled, and drop-shadowed is still a bad logotype. A good one would be better off without that stuff. Generally, if you are thinking of using a computer trick, go lie down until the feeling goes away.

PAUSE

July 15, 2008

This is what happens when the best motion graphic designers get together.
I wish I was going to still be in NY for this. It looks like it will be mind blowing good.
For some of the best motion reals you will ever see (that’s right…ever) check this out.

YUP ANOTHER

July 15, 2008

Though I really have no desire to see one more knock off of Shepard Fairey’s Obey the Giant graphic, this one is pretty funny/clever. Instead maybe us designers could spend more time making speech bubble logos…oh wait…
